The short version. Keyriff is free and provided as-is by one person. It might break and it might go away. Your work isn’t backed up — it lives in your browser and nowhere else, so export anything you care about.
1. What this is
Keyriff is a free tool for finding piano chords and arranging them into practice sheets. It runs entirely in your web browser. As it stands today, there is no account to create, nothing to subscribe to and nothing to pay. By using it you accept these terms.
2. Your data is not backed up
This is the most important clause here, so it is not buried at the bottom. Your sheets and saved chords are stored only in your own browser. There is no copy on a server, and we cannot recover your work — we have never had it in the first place.
Your data will be lost if you:
- clear your browsing data or site storage
- use private or incognito browsing
- switch browsers, profiles or devices
- let your browser evict storage to reclaim space
Export anything you would be sorry to lose as a PDF. The app is a place to work things out, not a place to store them.
3. No warranty
Keyriff is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Chord names come from an automated analysis of the notes you press, and may not match the name a given musical context would call for. Do not treat them as authoritative for exams or publication.
4. No guarantee of availability
There is no uptime commitment. The service may be slow, interrupted, changed, or withdrawn entirely at any time and without notice. Features may be added, altered or removed. It is a free tool maintained by one person in their spare time.
5. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, no liability is accepted for any loss or damage arising from your use of Keyriff, including lost work, lost data, lost time or lost practice. Nothing in these terms limits liability where the law does not allow it to be limited.
6. Acceptable use
Please do not:
- attempt to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the service or its hosting
- redistribute the app as your own product, or present it as affiliated with or endorsed by anyone it is not
- use it for anything unlawful
7. Your work belongs to you
Chord progressions and practice sheets you create are yours. No claim is made over them, which is straightforward given that we never receive them in the first place.
8. Third-party components
The app uses open-source libraries and plays recorded piano samples hosted by a third party, each under its own licence. It is hosted on Vercel and uses PostHog for anonymous analytics, both of which have their own terms. See the privacy policy for what each of them receives.
9. Changes to these terms
These terms may change. The date at the top of the page shows when they last did. Continuing to use Keyriff after a change means you accept the revised terms.
